Before a good setup starts, a few things should be closely inspected. On all guitars, the neck should be inspected for humps, twists, fet board tongue fall away (depending on number of frets, if applicable), straightness and truss rod condition and performance. String height at the nut, nut to tuning key string angle and nut string slot depth and width. (Did you know if the strings sit too deep in the nut slots it robs the guitar of valuable tone?) Check tuning keys for wear, loose posts and proper operation. Frets checked to make sure there are no loose, raised or excessively worn frets. Electric guitar tremolos should be checked for proper adjustment, bridges and stop bars for proper string angle and/or stress bending at their mounting posts. Acoustic guitars for saddle fit and that the bridge is not pulling up from string tension. Now I can listen to you play, see how you play, learn the type of music you like to play, how you pick the guitar, the size strings you like and discuss with you a setup that will best suit your playing style.
