Saddle replacement on acoustic guitars is normally done because of a desire for an alternate saddle material, string ware or undersaddle pickup installation. If you change string size on your guitar, a new saddle may need to be cut in order to improve intonation. Compensation may need to be changed to get the intonation at it's best. For acoustic guitar saddles (I personally prefer bone saddles), Graphtech saddles do well on top of undersaddle pickups. You do not get the absolute coupling with undersaddle pickups that you do without, but bone or Graphtech saddles are a very good choice. On electric guitars, wear or the desire to change to newer and better materials are good reasons for changing saddles. With electric guitars, string angle from the bridge to the string stop and coupling are good areas to look at. Proper string angle can improve harmonics and coupling can improve sustain. There are good electric guitar saddle replacements that can improve coupling and fit your existing bridge configuration.
